The Mahea Uchiyama Center for International Dance (M.U.C.I.D.) opened in October 1993 to provide an environment where students of all ages and abilities can take part in a holistic multicultural dance experience through traditional training, lecture, demonstrations, performance opportunities and workshops with master teachers. The Center approaches dance as a manifestation of the human spirit, rather than merely a collection of movements. Thus students are encouraged to explore and celebrate their cultural differences and common humanity.
MUCID hopes to provide a way for the diverse cultural population of the Bay Area to understand itself more fully. This will be achieved through various performances and a course structure unique among area dance studios, in the form of a multidisciplinary approach to dance education. We welcome new members and encourage your support.
The Center offers a beautiful, airy space in West Berkeley which features 1,750 square feet, the latest wood sprung floor and mirrors. There's plenty of free parking, excellent light and a quiet and inspiring atmosphere. Safe and secure for evening classes and performances with a seating capacity of ninety. We are conveniently located with easy freeway access.
Meet our faculty.
