In the Yoruba tradition, our parents are thought to be the direct link which connects our ancestors to us, and our children link us to future generations. In this way, we become our own ancestors. Children are our greatest gift.

My son has the name of Hoku, which in the Hawaiian language meansstar. I also have a Godson in Tahiti, named after my son. I created the song "Na Hoku 'Elua" while in Tahiti celebrating little Hokus first birthday.
The words, half in Hawaiian and half in Tahitian, speak of the beauty of the full moon rising over the ocean during the family gathering, and how the moon beams seemed to shine in celebration of my love for the wonderful young man I raised, as well as the beautiful little one with the same name. The name means The Two Hokus. |
